Gilbert Arenas misses the world championship due to groin injury

One of the better defenders on the USA basketball team, Gilbert Arenas will miss the games due to a nasty groin injury.

Managing director Jerry Colangelo said, "We know Gilbert is really disappointed. He's done a great job. "It's an unfortunate situation, but he is not going to be able to continue on."

Tim Dlulane fractures neck and career might be over

I'll admit I don't know much about professional rugby, but a neck fracture sounds like a horrible injury to happen during play. There are many scares during American football with neck injuries, but nothing is usually major.

Bulls doctor Tommie Smook  said, "At first it looked as if it was concussion only, but then we examined him further after he complained about his neck. The staff of the emergency unit at Loftus Versfeld took him through all the precautionary tests and we found the problem between the neck vertebrae. He basically has a fracture."

Ben Roethlisberger wearing a special helmet in practice this preseason.

In the Steelers' camp, the quarterbacks are off limits for contact at any time to prevent needless injuries.

Roethlisberger wore the distinctive helmet cover for both of the team's practices Monday, saying, "I hit all of my passes (in the morning) so I kept it on for good luck."

Terrell Owens will miss regular season opener with a hamstring injury

Although an MRI taken Saturday showed no damage, Owens isn't taking any chances. He's having his healing-inducing hyperbaric chamber shipped to his training camp hotel room. Two trainers and a doctor from Atlanta are on their way, too.

The Disabled List tries to take an sports injury a day and explain it. What causes it? How do you get it? How do you treat? When will you recover? We scan the daily newsfeeds, pick out an interesting story and then create an entry to discuss it. This works well, but there needs to be a way to track all the sports injuries that come up.

What we're going to attempt to do is grab the headlines from the last 24 hours or so and note the injuries. Hopefully, this will help people in their research and provide a database of information for people to use.

The entries won't be long, nor will they be information packed. It's really a bookmarking service for sports injuries. This way you can go look and see when something happened to your favorite player or team.
